«СИ ПАКЪ!» уэрэдыр шапсыгъ адыгэхэм я репертуарым щыщщ, удж хъурей ящIым деж щыжаIэу щытахэт. Уэрэдыр зыгъэзащIэр Адыгей Къэралыгъуэм и Уэрэд ЖыIакIуэ Ансамблым «Ислъамый».


In the (Plains) Shapsugh tradition, the famous song ‘Siy Paq!’ (‘My Pug-Nosed One!’) was sung to a round dance (удж хъурей; wij x’wrey) as part of the celebrations in the house of the bride. This ancient classic is amongst the popular songs of banter.The performance on this file is by the Adigean State Folk Song Ensemble ‘Yislhamiy’.

Адыгэ хьэгъуэлIыгъуэр лъэпкъым и гуфIэгъуэщ. НысащIэм хуэфащэ хъуэхъухэр, щытхъу псалъэхэр, уэрэд дахэхэр хужаIэ нысашэм щыгъуэ.Нысашэ хъуэхъухэм дахэу, кIыхьэу, убгъуауэ заукъуэдий. Мы едзыгъуэ, «Ди нысэ фо!», адыгэхэм жаIэу щытахэт нысашэм щыгъуэ. Мы хъуэхъу кIыхьлIыхьым щыщ зы пычыгъуэ щапхъэу къэтхьынущ.

The elaborate and very popular toast «ДИ НЫСЭ ФО!» ‘Diy Nise Fo!’ (‘Our Sweet Daughter-in-law!’) was pronounced during «нысашэ» (Nisashe),  or wedding ceremony. Part of the long toast is reproduced here.

Traditional Wedding Songs and Melodies

 

Нысашэ; Nisashe (Ceremony of escorting the bride to her new home) – M. I. Quandour, Lyuba Balagova (Belaghi) & Firas Valenteen. [Melody]

 

This is one of the ancient dance tunes played during the ‘Nisashe’ ceremony, when the new bride was escorted from her parents’ homestead to her new home.


This piece is from the wonderful album ‘Nostalgia’, a collection of ancient and traditional tunes arranged by M. I. Quandour and Lyuba Balagova (Belaghi). Firas Valenteen plays the accordion. Each piece is introduced by Belaghi, a Circassian poet of great talent.

This is a modern wedding tune. The modulations of the accordion are simply superb.
